Scarlett Johansson was named Moet ambassador

Scarlett Johansson was named 'ambassador' for Champagne house Moet Chandon at a gala film evening in London.

The star, famous for her roles in Lost in Translation and Woody Allen's recent release, Vicky Christina Barcelona, arrived at a 'Tribute to Cinema' party held at London's Big Sky studio. She was revealed as Moet's 'Hollywood face' midway through the evening.

'I am honored to have been chosen as their ambassador and to make history with the brand, as the first celebrity face of Champagne,' she said.
Johansson was the 'obvious choice' said Moet boss Frédéric Cumenal. He went on, saying she had a 'magic story to tell', was a 'true icon of celebration', was 'refreshingly spontaneous', 'generous' and 'glamorous', as well as 'living life to the full, both on screen and off'.

Other guests at the evening included UK actors Joseph Fiennes and Thandie Newton, supermodel Eva Herzigova and singer Rachel Stevens. All the attendees were invited to sign a Nebuchadnezzar of Champagne which will be auctioned off to raise money for Johannson's charity of choice: Oxfam.

However, the centrepiece of the evening was a giant gold Champagne cork which opened out in the middle of the studio to reveal DJs Jefferson Hack and Paris-born Jerry Bouthier.

The event was dubbed by the New York Times as a 'boozy tribute to cinema'.

'Classic old movies featuring the likes of Ginger Rogers and Audrey Hepburn were projected onto the walls, making everyone feel as if they were actually in the movie,' said the US broadsheet's Style magazine. 'Or it felt that way after a few drinks.'
