Nicole Kidman interview Vanguard Award - Rabbit Hole Oscar Nomination

"Honoring Nicole Kidman is so exciting for us here at SBIFF," comments Roger Durling. "Her work is immensely diverse and with this year's heart-wrenching and brilliant performance in 'Rabbit Hole' -- a project she helped develop as well -- it is exactly who we should be celebrating with the 2011 Cinema Vanguard Award." With each of her performances, Nicole Kidman represents the actor in its finest and most polished form. A woman of many talents, she effortlessly navigates through a diverse range of genres; mastering drama, horror, comedy, romance, and even the musical.
Kidman has been in many award films such as The Hours, Moulin Rouge!, The Others, Nine, Birth, Australia, Cold Mountain, The Stepford Wives, and recently Rabbit Hole, Just Go with It, Trespass. Kidman won the Best Actress Academy Award for her portrayal of Virginia Woolf in The Hours and a Golden Globe Award for Moulin Rouge!
The Cinema Vanguard Award was created in recognition of an actor who has forged his/her own path - taking artistic risks and making a significant and unique contribution to film. The award has previously been awarded to Christoph Waltz, Vera Farmiga, Stanley Tucci, Peter Sarsgaard, Kristin Scott Thomas and Ryan Gosling. It was presented at the Santa Barbara International Film Festival.
Of being selected as the recipient, Nicole Kidman said, "I suppose that's in my blood. I don't even see it as taking a risk, I just see it as staying true to my heart and instinct." She said that her family is where she feels especially happy, with husband Keith Urban, two-year-old daughter Sunday Rose and new daughter Faith Margaret.
Following "The Rabbit Hole," Nicole is in a comedy called "Just Go With It" co-starring Adam Sandler, Jennifer Aniston and Brooklyn Decker and also in the thriller "Trespass"with Nicolas Cage. She is also teaming up with James Franco for a Broadway revival of "Sweet Bird of Youth." Her future film project is "The Danish Girl" which is inspired by David Ebershoff's novel. The novel is a fictionalized account of the life of Lili Elbe, who was a male Danish artist named Einar Wegener and the first person to undergo sex reassignment surgery. The film will star Nicole as Lili and perhaps Rachel Weisz will play the role of Lili's wife. In the past Charlize Theron and Gwyneth Paltrow were attached to the project.
